Smoothies are a great way to get a nutrient-packed meal or snack. They can provide everything you need—protein, healthy fats, vegetables, and fruits—all in a to-go cup.
Even better: Smoothies may be the fastest food of all. There’s next to no prep work, no cooking, hardly any cleanup. Perfect for busy parents, kids whose hunger has hit 'right now' and everyone in between!
My Top Smoothie Tips:
If your serious about your smoothies and want the creamy, well blender beauties we see on social media you need to invest in a high speed blender with at least an 800-watt motor.
Prepare frozen fruit and veg ahead to save time. Cut and freeze on a baking pa, then transfer to a freezer bag or container. Its a great way to use up extra greens and fruit that could go to waste!
Frozen bananas, lightly steamed and frozen cauliflower goes a long way. Peel, slice, and freeze them. These go-to smoothie recipe ingredient adds thickness without taking over other flavors.
The thicker the smoothie you want the less liquid you add (hence why you need a high speed blender). If your going more for nice-cream consistency let the frozen fruit defrost for 5mins before blending!
Make sure you are not just slurping down a fruit fiasco - in general smoothies should include a healthy fat like avocado, nut or coconut milk and a quality protein powder so the smoothie really fills you up. Most people who pile a whole lot of fruit in the blender find they are hungry within the hour, as fruit generally takes 30 mins to digest from our stomach to our small intestine (just something to keep in mind).
